Labour Day 2016 Events

Labour Day is coming up on Monday, September 5th, which gives us a great opportunity to join together and celebrate the labour movement in Nova Scotia. The NSNU is proud to help sponsor Labour Day events around the province. Bring your families out to enjoy a great day of food, music and fun, and show support for our united labour force in Nova Scotia.

Amherst: The Amherst Group of Local Unions will host a public Labour Day event from 12 – 4pm in Victoria Square.

Bridgewater: Join the South Shore Labour Council at 1:30pm at Kings Court (646 Kings St., Bridgewater) for a march beginning at 2:15pm. The march will be followed by a picnic at Shipyards Landing.

Halifax: The Halifax-Dartmouth and District Labour Council will be hosting the annual Labour Day March and Barbecue on September 5th. Those who would like to participate in the march are asked to gather at 10:30 am at Victoria Park in Halifax, with the march beginning at 11am. The march will end at the South Commons Triangle, where guests can enjoy the free community barbecue, face painting and entertainment into the afternoon. For more details, visit

Kentville: The Annapolis Valley Labour Day Picnic will be held from 11am – 2 pm at Memorial Park (directly behind the Cenotaph and the monument for injured workers). For more details, .

Port Hawkesbury: The Strait Area Labour Council will host a barbecue and celebration from 2 – 3pm at the Unifor Hall on Reeves Street.

Sydney: The Cape Breton and District Labour Council will be hosting a barbecue at Open Hearth Park (109 Ferry St, Sydney) on Labour Day from 12 – 2pm.

Yarmouth: The South West Labour Group will host a barbecue from 11am – 2 pm at Frost Park on Main Street in Yarmouth.
